Mounting instructions for hub bearing replacement in passenger cars

When mounting or adjusting hub bearings it s extremely important for the safety of the vehicle as well as for the operation of the bearings that the shop manual for the vehicleconcerned is followed in detail.
Due to differences in car construction the following instructions are only of general bearing technical nature and must be considered by the mechanic from case to case to ascertain that the bearings are mounted correctly.  Otherwise the product warranty is not valid.

In order to let a bearing operate well it is essential when mounting that the correct method is used, that proper tools are used and that cleanliness is observed. The mounting should preferably be performed in a clean room. Do not open the bearing package until the bearing shall be used and let the rust preventive compound remain in the bearing during mounting.

A. Mounting of bearing type Hub Unit 1:

1. Press or drive the bearing (1) into the steering knuckle (2) by means of an unhardened impact dolly,which shall be applied to the outer ring.
Note: The press force must not go over the inner ring as the bearing may be damaged.
The bearing is usually fixed axially in the knuckle by means of locking rings (3) or ring nuts.
2. Push up the wheel hub (4) on the drive shaft (5).
Note: The mounting force must not be applied over the outer ting – the bearing may be damaged. Follow the shop manual!
3. Mount the wear washer and tighten the shaft nut (6) to prescribed moment, see the shop manual. Lock the nut.
4. Check that the bearing runs smoothly.

B 、Mounting of bearing type Hub Unit 2:

1、 Push up the bearing unit (7) on the shaft journal (8).
Note: The mounting force shell be applied upon the side face of the inner ring. Check that the inner ring abuts the associated shoulder.
2、 Mount the wear washer and tighten the shaft nut (9) to prescribed moment, see the shop manual. Lock the nut.

C 、Mounting of bearing type Hub Unit 3:

1、 Mount the wear washer and tighten the shaft nut (12) to prescribed moment, see the shop manual. Lock the nut.
